Once again we had great weather for the Oxon 40/20. It was sunny and warm, possibly too warm for some with temperatures reaching 22° by mid-afternoon. With the unusually warm April the bluebells were past their best but still gave a good show. Numbers on the routes were slightly down on last year's all-time record due to the unexpected and unexplained higher number of pre-booked entrants who didn't turn up on the day. But 115 starters and 98 finishers on the 40 mile route was a new record for the event: of the other 40-milers 10 diverted to the 35-mile route and 7 retired. 222 people started the 20 mile route: 218 finished and 4 had to retire.

First thanks should go to Pat Endacott, continuing as event organiser after 5 years in charge as Group Chairman, who by a judicious combination of cajoling and arm-twisting recruits and organises the brigade of volunteers who make the 40/20 happen. The catering kept up our successful record, this year under the new management of Jan Sambrook and a dedicated team of helpers who took on the catering never having been involved in the event or one like it before. Sainsburys will never look the same to her again! Thanks to Duncan and his checkers for yet another superb route and to Ivan for all his hard work in getting 390 pre-registered entries. Thanks to the cake makers - we didnt have a lot left.

Once more we thank the local firms in Henley who lent us their car parking spaces: Dalton Identification Systems, Dunster-Morten, Fairview Estates, The Henley Business Centre, Kwik-Fit, Lady Sew & Sew, Lake Wines, Markit, Newton House, One-Lan and RPS Energy. Thanks to you all. Thanks as well to the many people who emailed to say how much they'd enjoyed the event, and to those who left messages on our Forum. Thanks to the marshals at the checkpoints and event HQ, and the unseen backroom men and women, spouses and partners who make everything run smoothly. And the final thanks go to everyone who took part in such good spirit. Congratulations to the finishers and commiserations to those who didn't manage to get all the way round. We look forward to seeing you all next year.
