Submission Guidelines
Articles
Articles can be any length - a couple of paragraphs, a short piece or a full-length article. Please send them as email attachments using the link on the Journal page. The file format should be MS Word (.doc), WordPerfect (.wpd), rich text (.rtf) or plain text (.txt). Any pictures to go with your article will make it more attractive and interesting so send them along too, either as separate files (see below for more on sending pictures) or bundled into a .zip file.
I'll edit your article to correct any errors that may have crept in, but if I think it needs any significant changes I'll check with you before putting it on the website. Like posts in the Forum, I won't publish anything that contains personal abuse, bad language, offensive, improper, indecent or illegal content. Nor will I normally publish any advertising or other commercial content (though things like personal recommendations for accommodation in areas of interest to members are OK).
Pictures
Although I can scan prints, I much prefer to get digital photos by email. Photos should preferably be in jpeg (.jpg) format, although I can handle most other common formats. If you only have prints please contact me for my mailing address, then send them to me with a stamped addressed envelope so I can return them (at your own risk).
Don't worry about scaling the pictures - I can sort that out. If you do want to reduce the size of your pictures, though, please aim for the longer side being around 1000 - 1200 pixels if that's possible. If your pictures are already smaller than this that's OK too.
I need a brief title or caption for every picture. If you're sending a set of pictures to go on a Photo Gallery-style page please give me the date and name/location of the walk or event, which will appear on the Journal front page and also be the page title. And don't forget to give your name (as you want it to appear on the page).
